Vivir en un pueblo tiene sus ventajas para un escritor de la talla de Benítez Reyes. El mismo lo reconoce, no sin ironía: «Vivo en Rota por dos razones más bien insignificantes: porque he nacido en este sitio y porque me gusta demasiado escribir como para no disponer de tedio suficiente para poder escribir».
